Collettivo_21 is a contemporary music ensemble, formed by young professionals, born in Piacenza (Italy) in 2015 at the Conservatorio “G. Nicolini”. Defined as an eclectic ensemble, Collettivo_21 has been working since its beginnings with musicians and composers from all over Italy and Europe and explores different aspects of contemporary classical music, often going beyond the boundaries that define it as such, collaborating with festivals and contemporary art exhibitions and artists such as Giovanni Sollima, Umberto Petrin, Marco Domenichetti, Evan Parker, Ike Willis, Elio (of Elio e le storie tese), Gianpaolo Antongirolami, Walter Prati, Alessandro Perini, Claudio Panariello, Alessandro Baldessari and Camilla Hoitenga. Collettivo_21 premiered works by Frederik Rzewski, Giorgio Colombo Taccani, Riccardo Dapelo, Luca Guidarini, Luca Ricci, Claudio Panariello, Carlo Alessandro Landini, Matteo Tundo, Irlando Danieli, Luca Brignole, as well as Italian premieres by Alexander Schubert, Diana Soh, Jean-Claude Risset and others.

In 2016 Collettivo_21 performed in the wonderful hall of the Museo del Novecento in Milan – for the exhibition Omaggio a Marino Zuccheri organised by the NoMus association; in 2017 it was selected as ensemble to take part in the contemporary opera “Notte per me luminosa” by Marco Betta, under the direction of Massimiliano Caldi, at the Teatro Municipale in Piacenza. 

In 2018 Collettivo_21 starts the collaboration with pianist Davide Cabassi in the “Incontri Contemporanei”, a series of meetings and concerts with important Italian composers such as Fabio Vacchi, Irlando Danieli, Ivan Fedele, Mauro Montalbetti, Giorgio Colombo Taccani and Paolo Arcà. 

In 2017 Collettivo_21 organised the first contemporary music festival in Piacenza, Incó_ntemporanea; the first edition featured musicians such as Umberto Petrin and Marco Domenichetti and composer Frederic Rzewski as guests. The second edition (2018) boasts the presence and collaboration of the famous cellist and composer Giovanni Sollima and the realisation together with Alessandro Baldessari (composer and sound designer) and Riccardo Buscarini (director and choreographer) of the show “Dialogues from the Boutique”, a multimedia concert inspired by the stories “La Boutique del Mistero” by Dino Buzzati, at the Municipal Theatre of Piacenza. 

In 2019, he started a musical improvisation project, in collaboration with Ensemble Collettivo CRISIS, which saw its first performance in Milan in the PactaSoundZone season organised by composer and guitarist Maurizio Pisati. Also in 2019, Collettivo_21, is invited to perform for the international music festival Primavera di Baggio, organised by Davide Cabassi, with the show “To Be Prog”; a concert inspired by the great names of international progressive rock. In the same year they took part in the renowned Musiikin aika (Time of Music) festival in Viitasaari, Finland, where under the guidance of important personalities such as Camilla Hoitenga, Kaija Saariaho and John Butcher they worked and performed in close contact with musicians and composers from all over the world, achieving great success. 

The ensemble is also invited by Edoardo Tresoldi to perform at the opening of his new atelier in Milan in 2019. It performs live on radio as part of the programme “Piazza Verdi” broadcast by RAI Radio3, presenting the third edition of the festival Incó_ntemporanea, dedicated to audiovisuals, with world (Luca Guidarini) and Italian (Alexander Schubert) premieres, and with the collaboration of Concorto Film Festival.

The fourth edition of the festival (2020), sees the collaboration of Claudio Panariello and Alessandro Perini for the realisation of Ars Cyber != Dystopian (founded by the Ernst Von Siemens Foundation Music Foundation), a double installation that can be enjoyed simultaneously live and online, as well as hosting a concert by Duo Dubois and one performed by Collettivo_21 itself, both full of world premieres (Claudio Panariello, Luca Guidarini, Tommaso Settimi).

In 2021, the ensemble performs for Gioventù Musicale d’Italia Modena with the programme F_eP_oE_s, presenting premiere works by Luca Guidarini and Arshia Samsaminia; subsequently, it is invited as ensemble in residence by Foresty International Music Festival in Montaldeo (AL), where it accompanies the composition masterclass held by Marco Momi and records pieces by Matteo Tundo and Gabriele Batia. Also in 2021 the 4est project was launched, in collaboration with Alessandro Baldessari and funded by Volvo Car Italia and Volvo Studio Milano, an audiovisual product inspired by the Vaia storm that hit the forests of Cadore in 2018.

In autumn 2021 Collettivo_21 participates in the Crossroads festival in Salzburg, with public and critical success, premiering pieces by Arshia Samsaminia, Sara Stevanovic and Luca Ricci.
