Lorenzo Moretto – Saxophone

Born in Piacenza on August 9, 1994, he studied Saxophone with M° Scarlatti at the “G. Nicolini” Conservatory in Piacenza, where he obtained his bachelor with honors in October 2017. In the same conservatory, in parallel with his saxophone studies, he continues his composition studies with Carlo Alessandro Landini and Riccardo Dapelo from 2013 to 2016.

Over the years he has taken part in masterclasses both in saxophone (Daniel Gauthier, Petra Horvat, Levente Puskas, Mitja Zerjal, Marco Gerboni, Matthias Anton, Naomi Sullivan, Nikita Zimin, Jerome Laran) and composition (Hanus Barton, Ivan Fedele, Peter Beyer, Aureliano Cattaneo, Peter Maxwell Davies, Cristopher Austin), adding composition to his concert activity: between 2015 and 2017, as first alto saxophone, in three productions included in the concert series “Allegro con brio” (one of which in collaboration with Johan de Meij), in 2016 he takes care of the musical part in the presentation of the novel “Ingombranze”, by Irma Zanetti, signing and playing three arrangements and three original pieces, while her compositions have been performed at both internal and external festivals, such as the Fuorivisioni festival in Piacenza in 2015 and the Livorno Music Festival in 2014. In 2017 he performed at the Malibran Theatre in Venice as first alto sax of the wind orchestra Alpe Adria and as tenor sax in the symphonic orchestra La Macia. In 2018 he also took part in three productions with the symphonic orchestra “LaVerdi per tutti” as first alto saxophone. He still collaborates with the Conservatory of Piacenza as an external musician for orchestral and chamber music collaborations. His artistic activity also sees him involved with various chamber ensembles including two sax quartets (Piacenza Saxophone Quartet, BDSM Saxophone Quartet), where he plays the role of alto sax.

In 2016 he won the scholarship – in the section “winds and percussion” – “Rotary Club Farnese” and the first prize at the international competition “Moncalieri Music Competition” for the section “wind soloists”.

In 2015 he founded, together with other musicians, the contemporary music ensemble “collettivo_21”, with which he performs regularly, participating in numerous festivals and concerts, such as “Omaggio a Marino Zuccheri” at the Museo del Novecento in Milan and the opera “Notte per me luminosa” by Marco Betta, staged in April 2017 at the Teatro Municipale in Piacenza and also performing live on the radio program “Piazza Verdi”, broadcast by Rai Radio 3. Also with the collective_21 he co-organized in spring 2017 and in autumn 2018 and 2019 the festival “Incò_ntemporanea”, the first festival of contemporary music in Piacenza, which saw important guests of international fame such as Umberto Petrin, Friedric Rzewski and Giovanni Sollima.

In September 2017 he graduated in Food Science and Technology – curriculum in oenology and viticulture, at the Catholic University of Piacenza.

From September 2018 until February 2019 he did an Erasmus at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, under the guidance of the master Christer Johnsson.

He is currently a graduate of the second level academic saxophone at the G. Frescobaldi Conservatory in Ferrara, under the guidance of Maestro Marco Gerboni.
